Yesterday was Valentine’s day. Obviously it’s a fabricated holiday, but I don’t really have a problem with the while thing, for the most part.
While at my 2nd job at a local grocery store, I have noticed that every Valentine’s day brings a flood of men (and kids) grabbing flowers, chocolates, and cards. On the surface, that seems like a good thing, but to be honest, it pisses me off.
I certainly don’t know anyone’s story, and perhaps all those men show their loved on how much they mean to them all year long. Perhaps not.
Given the divorce rate, and what we often read in the media, I suspect an over-priced bunch of flowers and a $9 card is as good as it gets for some people.
I fail to understand how people take each other for granted. How does your love for someone become less important than TV, Facebook, or whatever?
While I understand how busy everyone is, how much effort does it take to be nice to someone? A little note, holding hands, a kind word.. 1 less night stuck in front of the TV, 1 less hour on Facebook. Priorities. Putting what matters first.
This is a rant that runs through my mind every year at this time. Maybe it’s silly. Maybe not. Obviously I don’t know the story of everyone I see around this time, and I’m sure many of them pay lots of attention to their loved ones.
